Genesis cumulative US sales surpass 450,000 units
Genesis, the independent luxury vehicle brand owned by Hyundai Motor Group, said on Friday that its cumulative sales in the United States have surpassed 450,000 units, a decade after entering the world’s largest automotive market.
Genesis said it has sold 454,049 vehicles in the US through July since its official launch in 2016.
Genesis’s annual US sales surpassed 80,000 units for the first time last year, while sales in the first half of this year reached a record 39,088 units.
The performance was driven by strong demand for its sport utility vehicle (SUV) lineup, which accounted for 61.5 percent of Genesis’s total US sales.
As a result, the company is further expanding its portfolio in the luxury vehicle, electrification, and hybrid segments.
Genesis unveiled the GV90, its flagship electric SUV, in a world premiere in San Francisco on Wednesday (19/8). The model is scheduled to go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year.
The model is offered in two variants: the Genesis GV90 Neolun and the standard GV90.
The GV90 Neolun features coach doors with hidden B-pillars that can be opened separately, while the standard GV90 uses conventional side-opening doors.
The GV90 is powered by a high-voltage battery with a capacity of 123.5 kWh, capable of delivering a range of up to 500 kilometres on a single charge for the seven-seat model, based on the company’s internal testing.
Using a 350 kW fast charger, the GV90’s battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 22 minutes.
