Generative AI users in China surpass 700 million

Beijing (ANTARA) - The number of generative artificial intelligence (AI) users in China has surpassed 700 million, according to a report by the China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC) on Tuesday.

During the 7th China Internet Basic Resources Conference on Tuesday, CNNIC presented the Report on the Development of Generative AI Applications (2026).

“In the first half of 2026, the number of generative artificial intelligence users in China exceeded 700 million, with a penetration rate of more than 50 per cent,” the report stated.

CNNIC added that 76 per cent of users reported using generative AI to answer questions.

In the first half of 2026, the use of AI assistants and AI devices to improve work efficiency increased by more than 100 per cent compared to the same period last year.
