General Listyo Sigit, Former National Police Chief of Two Presidents, Appointed as KSP Head
General Listyo Sigit Prabowo was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subiment, as the Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), replacing Dudung Abdurachman, on Thursday (1/10).
Sigit was born in Ambon on 5 May 1969. After graduating from the Police Academy (Akpol) in 1991, he began his career within the police force.
Initially, he took on leadership positions at the Duren Sawit Police Sub-district in 1999, followed by leading the Tambora Police Sub-district in 2003. Sigit continued his career as the Chief of the Surakarta City Police in 2011.
In 2012, Sigit moved to Jakarta to serve as the Head of Sub-Directorate II of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation at the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri).
When Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, won the 2014 Presidential Election, Sigit was selected to serve as presidential aide. The two were reported to have developed a close relationship during Sigit’s tenure as the Chief of Surakarta Police and Jokowi’s time as the Mayor of Solo.
In 2018, Sigit assumed a new role, being tasked to lead the Banten Regional Police and later serving as the Head of the Professional and Security Division of the Indonesian National Police.
He returned to the criminal investigation field when appointed as the Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police from December 2019 to January 2021, replacing Idham Aziz.
Sigit also holds a Master’s degree in Police Science Studies from the University of Indonesia.
Sigit’s career continued to ascend in early 2021 when his name was proposed as the sole candidate for National Police Chief through a Presidential Letter to the House of Representatives (DPR). President Jokowi officially inaugurated Listyo Sigit Prabowo as the National Police Chief on 27 January 2021.
After serving as the National Police Chief for five years and eight months, Sigit’s tenure in that role concluded this Thursday (1/10). The DPR Plenary Session approved Inspector General Pol Suyudi Ario Seto as the new National Police Chief, replacing Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
Throughout his career as National Police Chief, Sigit handled several high-profile cases and major incidents. These include the Ferdy Sambo case, the Kanjuruhan Tragedy in Malang, and the August 2025 protest incidents.
