JAKARTA – TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto has explained that his decision to establish alert status 1 across several TNI units forms part of routine operational readiness exercises. This relates to units integrated within the Rapid Response Force for Natural Disaster Management (PRCPB).

Agus explained that each regional military command (Kodam) maintains one battalion prepared for alert duty, particularly when its operational area faces potential or active natural disasters. According to the former Armed Forces Chief of Staff, the issuance of Telegram Number TR/283/2026 represents nothing extraordinary.

“I have already implemented alert status 1 across units within the PRCPB, or Rapid Response Force for Natural Disaster Management. So each Kodam has one battalion on alert status 1, especially in areas experiencing natural disasters,” he stated after attending the Nuzulul Quran commemoration at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday evening, 10 March 2026 WIB.

According to Agus, TNI alert status 1 also constitutes a standard mechanism for ensuring personnel and equipment readiness in the field. “We are testing the operational readiness of personnel and materials. This is a normal occurrence,” said the former Presidential Guard Commander.

When asked whether the alert status related to heightened conflict escalation in the Middle East as stated in the telegram, Agus declined to comment to journalists who questioned him. “Okay, thank you. This alert status 1 is simply routine,” he said.

Regarding troop deployment and equipment mobilisation, including the Astros rocket launcher that circulated in videos around the National Monument area, Agus characterised these activities as merely part of simulation exercises. He emphasised that TNI leadership was testing the speed of troop mobilisation in responding to situations.
