Gendang Beleq Music Accompanies Rinjani 100 Runners, Boosting Tourist Visits
The launch of the Rinjani 100 run at Pekendangan Beach in Belanting Village, Sambelia Subdistrict, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), was accompanied by performances of the traditional Gendang Beleq music ensemble. The Rinjani 100 event is expected to boost tourist visits.
Head of the East Lombok Tourism Office, Widayat, stated that the inclusion of traditional Gendang Beleq music in the Rinjani 100 event serves as a unique attraction for participants in the extreme running competition.
“This certainly becomes an attraction for participants and visitors from various countries; this is our way of introducing our local culture. The participants also appeared enthusiastic; earlier, some even danced,” said Widayat, when met by detikBali after the Rinjani 100 flag-off on Friday (1/5/2026).
With the Rinjani 100 event, he is convinced it will have a positive impact on East Lombok’s tourism. This is evidenced by the full occupancy of hotels and local accommodations in Sembalun.
“Of course, this has a positive impact on our tourism; one indicator is that all accommodations and hotels in Sembalun are fully booked, and reportedly, some people have difficulty finding rooms because they were booked far in advance,” Widayat explained.
He is also optimistic that the 2026 tourist visit target can be achieved through the Rinjani 100 event, namely 53,000 tourists.
“Our tourist visit target for 2026 is 53,000. I am confident that the Rinjani 100 event can be a trigger to achieve that target,” he said.
Widayat added that, besides impacting tourist visits, the Rinjani 100 event also benefits UMKM actors. “Here alone, I see many locals selling goods; this certainly has a positive impact on UMKM actors,” he added.
For information, the Rinjani 100 flag-off was held in the Pekendangan Beach area of Belanting Village, Sambelia Subdistrict, for the 162K category. Meanwhile, the flag-off for the other five categories will be held in Senaru and Sembalun.
