Gelora Subdistrict Strengthens Climate Change Resilience Through Greening
Gelora Subdistrict, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta, is strengthening efforts to address the impacts of climate change through environmental greening, organic waste processing, and the development of a community-managed waste bank.
These efforts form part of the assessment for the Climate Village Programme (ProKlim) at the DKI Jakarta provincial level for the Madya category, carried out through field verification in RW 02 on Thursday.
Gelora Subdistrict Head Rachman Arifin said the various activities are the result of collaboration between the government and residents to build environmental resilience while maintaining the quality of the residential environment.
“This is an activity by residents and for residents. If we protect the environment from now on, the ones who will enjoy it are the next generation of residents here,” said Rachman.
Climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts in RW 02 are not only carried out through greening, but also through waste management and food security.
Rachman expressed hope that the various efforts made by residents can lead RW 02 to achieve the ProKlim Madya designation while also serving as a foundation for sustainable environmental protection.
Meanwhile, a member of the field verification team from the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Nahilul Huda, assessed that greening efforts in RW 02 are progressing quite well, but have not yet been evenly distributed across all neighbourhood units (RT).
“We have only reviewed about two RTs where greening is visible, namely RT 04 and 06. However, for the other six RTs out of a total of eight, greening has not been maximised,” he said.
According to him, even distribution of greening needs to be a focus if RW 02 wants to improve its achievement to the ProKlim Utama category in the next assessment.
In addition to greening, Nahilul assessed that the climate change mitigation aspect through waste management in RW 02 is already quite good. Organic waste processing is already running in the residential area, while inorganic waste is managed through a waste bank that currently has 75 members from RW 02 residents.
“For mitigation at the ProKlim Madya stage, it is already quite good. Organic waste processing is running well, and for inorganic waste there is also a waste bank managed by residents with 75 members,” he said.
He also assessed that the institutional aspect of RW 02 is quite good, as seen from the completeness of documents submitted during the verification process.
Nahilul said the results of the ProKlim Madya assessment will be determined at the end of October 2026. If RW 02 is declared successful, a resident representative will receive an award signed by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.
“If it passes, the RW head or a resident representative will receive an award signed by Governor Pramono,” he said.
