Gelora Party Condemns Israel, Demands Release of Abducted Indonesian Citizens
The Gelora Indonesia Party has strongly condemned the abduction of at least five Indonesian citizens (WNI) by Israeli soldiers, including four journalists and one humanitarian activist. The individuals were reportedly abducted by Israeli forces in international waters.
“Gelora Indonesia Party strongly condemns Israel’s abduction of these at least five Indonesian citizens and demands their immediate release,” stated the Secretary-General of the Gelora Indonesia Party, Mahfuz Sidik, in Jakarta on Monday night (18/05/2026).
According to Mahfuz, the abduction in international waters clearly violates all international laws and regulations. Therefore, immediate release is an absolute demand that Israel must fulfil.
The five Indonesian citizens abducted by Israel were part of a convoy delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, Palestine, using several ships as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2026 mission.
“We also urge Israel not to obstruct humanitarian missions to Gaza,” Mahfuz asserted.
Based on data available as of Monday night, the five Indonesian citizens confirmed to have been abducted by Israeli soldiers from the Global Sumud Flotilla 2026 mission include two Republika journalists, Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai; Tempo journalist, Andre Prasetyo Nugroho; contributor, Rahendro Herubowo; and a volunteer from Rumah Zakat, Andi Angga Prasadewa.
