Gegana Team from Central Java Police Brimob Destroys Leftover Explosive Materials from Firecrackers in Semarang
The Gegana team from the Central Java Regional Police Brimob Unit conducted a disposal operation to destroy explosive materials in the Semarang area on Sunday (22/3). The activity took place from 09:45 to 11:45 WIB at the Kodam IV/Diponegoro Shooting Range in Bulusan Village, Tembalang Subdistrict, Semarang, Central Java.
The destruction targeted 0.5 kilograms of black powder explosive material, previously secured from the remnants of firecrackers on a sky lantern. The hazardous substance was found after it fell onto the roof of a resident’s house in Kramas Village on Saturday (21/3).
Led by Agus Santoso, the Gegana team carried out the disposal using a controlled burning method. This is the standard procedure for handling dangerous materials that could potentially cause explosions. The entire process proceeded safely and under control, with security provided by local police officers.
Attending the event were Tembalang Police Chief Kristiyastuti Handayani, accompanied by Deputy Police Chief Suharno. Also present were several functional officials from Tembalang Police Station, including Criminal Investigation Unit Head Wisnu and Community Guidance and Intelligence Unit Head Dody Riyadi, along with on-duty personnel.
Tembalang Police Chief Kristiyastuti Handayani stated that this destruction activity is a swift and appropriate step to anticipate potential dangers posed by explosive materials.
“We, together with the Gegana Team from the Central Java Regional Police Brimob Unit, have carried out the procedural destruction of explosive materials at a safe location far from residential areas. This is done to ensure there are no further risks that could endanger the public,” she said.
She also urged the public to increase vigilance, particularly regarding the phenomenon of sky lanterns often equipped with firecrackers.
“We remind the public not to launch sky lanterns fitted with firecrackers as they are highly dangerous and can cause losses, both material and to human safety. If you find any suspicious objects suspected to be explosive materials, immediately report them to the police so they can be handled professionally,” she emphasised.
