Geeting license without any 'help'

From Koran Tempo

On Oct. 4 I applied for a driver's license (SIM), type-A for
automobiles, at the metro police traffic division in Daan Mogot,
West Jakarta. I was surprised to see no SIM brokers around, while
this office had previously been teeming with these go-betweens.

It was quite an achievement that the police could manage to
arrange an orderly process for licenses despite the large crowd
of applicants. There were even announcements over the public
address system, warning clients against using the services of
unauthorized personnel.

The warning proved correct. I got my SIM-A card in one day at
the official rate without the "help" from any of the brokers.
Other visitors commented that the SIM process was smooth only
because it was a police inspection day, and the previous
situation would recur after one week.

Apart from the rumor, SIM handling, devoid of brokers'
interference, is indeed praiseworthy. I hope this system will be
maintained instead of being temporarily effective while there is
an inspection by superiors. The right question is: How long can
it continue?
