Geely Challenges Petrol Car Market with Coolray Launch at GIIAS
Geely Auto Indonesia surprised visitors at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026 in Tangerang on Wednesday by launching the Geely Coolray, a compact SUV powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE). The launch marks a new direction for the company, which was previously known in Indonesia primarily for its electric vehicle range, as it now begins to tap into the ICE market. The Geely Coolray is priced at Rp333 million for the Standard variant and Rp377 million for the Flagship variant, on the road in Jakarta. The Coolray is equipped with a 1,500 cc turbocharged petrol engine producing 171 horsepower and a maximum torque of 290 Nm. Power is delivered to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). With these specifications, Geely claims the Coolray can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 7.6 seconds. Alongside the Coolray launch, Geely also introduced the seven-seater Okavango SUV to the Indonesian public on the GIIAS show floor. However, unlike the Coolray, the Okavango has not yet been officially marketed. Through the introduction of the Coolray and the preview of the Okavango, Geely is demonstrating a strategy to not only focus on the electric vehicle market in Indonesia but also to compete in the petrol-powered vehicle segment, which commands a larger market share.
