Gede Jamur MSME Develops Sustainable Tourism and Packaging
Efforts to boost the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) while developing sustainable tourism in Bali are being pursued through collaboration between academics, business owners, and the community. One such initiative is the implementation of digital interactive edutourism and biodegradable packaging based on ‘storynomic’ principles at the Gede Jamur MSME in Karangasem, Bali.
“The concept we are promoting is not just about how MSME products look attractive, but how those products can tell a story and provide an experience to consumers. Packaging serves as a communication medium, while digital technology acts as a bridge to provide a more interactive educational experience,” said Jati Paras Ayu, head of the community service team from the LSPR Institute of Communication and Business lecturers group.
Through this approach, mushroom products are no longer merely commodities but become part of a tourism experience. Tourists can obtain information regarding the cultivation process, product value, and sustainability messages through integrated digital content. The programme began with socialisation to build partner commitment, followed by training in digital content management and the development of product narratives based on storynomic principles.
A key innovation in this programme is the use of biodegradable packaging equipped with QR Codes. By scanning the code, consumers can access educational content and information related to the products and the edutourism experience developed by the partner.
The founder of Gede Jamur, I Gede Artha, welcomed this innovation. He hopes that this technology can strengthen the product’s identity while introducing the potential of Pidpid Village to tourists. “The hope is that consumers do not just buy mushroom products, but also learn the story behind the product and its process,” he stated.
The integration of Digital Interactive Edutourism is expected to create a solid community-based tourism ecosystem in Pidpid Village. Consequently, tourists will not only visit to shop but will also gain a meaningful learning experience regarding mushroom cultivation and environmental sustainability values.
The activity, conducted on 1 September 2026, received a grant from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology for the year 2026. This programme involves the GDE Jamur MSME and the Pidpid Village Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) as partners in developing community-based educational tourism potential.
