Gayo Lues Official Nevi Rizal Apologises and Reprimands Son for Flexing Content
The child of an official in Gayo Lues Regency, Aceh, has been reprimanded by his own father for frequently uploading social media content displaying a luxurious lifestyle. The flexing content drew public scrutiny and was considered insensitive, emerging while parts of the Gayo Lues community are still striving to recover from the impact of disasters. The child of Nevi Rizal, Assistant I of the Gayo Lues Regency Regional Secretariat, regularly posted his activities on the TikTok account @ddeyya.aa. He became a topic of widespread discussion, particularly after uploading various travel documentation to several countries in Europe and South Korea. Additionally, a number of posts showing a lavish lifestyle and claims of owning dozens of fuel jerrycans also drew criticism. Responding to the controversy, Nevi Rizal confirmed that the viral content flaunting wealth belonged to his child. He has since offered a public apology to the government and the community for the posts, which were deemed to have hurt public sentiment. ‘I apologise profusely to the community and the government for our child’s behaviour,’ he stated. He confirmed that he had issued a stern warning to his child and requested that they no longer use social media to upload such content. He assured that his family has realised the impact of the posts and promised not to repeat actions that could trigger public unrest.
