Gayo Lues Official Apologises After Child Flaunts Overseas Holidays and Bulk Fuel Purchases

A child of Nevirizal, the Assistant I of the Gayo Lues Regional Secretariat in Aceh, caused a stir on social media by flaunting overseas holidays and the purchase of large quantities of fuel in jerrycans. Nevirizal has since issued a public apology for his child’s posts. “I apologise to the government and to the public who have been hurt, because this was unintentional on our child’s part, perhaps because their thinking hasn’t reached that level yet,” Nevirizal said, as quoted by detikSumut on Thursday (23/7/2026). Nevirizal explained that the uploaded posts were from last year. He stated that his child and wife travelled to South Korea in mid-2025 to take a family member for eye treatment. He confirmed he did not join the trip, nor did he accompany his child on a holiday to Europe. Regarding the fuel, Nevirizal claimed the petrol was purchased last December for disaster management purposes, as fuel was scarce at the time. “The 15 jerrycans of fuel were dropped off at my house for disaster management last December,” he clarified. Nevirizal admitted to being negligent in supervising his child’s social media use, adding that he is not very active online. The former acting Regional Secretary of Gayo Lues stated that the case went viral on Tuesday (21/7) and repeatedly apologised, acknowledging the incident was due to his oversight.
