A number of prominent figures and leaders from Chinese Muslim organisations across various da’wah pillars gathered at Masjid Lautze in Central Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026) for a silaturahim and halal bihalal event following Friday prayers.

When asked by reporters in Jakarta on Saturday (28/3/2026) about the silaturahim, the General Chairman of the Persatuan Islam Tionghoa Indonesia (PITI), Dr Serian Wijatno, stated that this historic meeting served as a momentum to strengthen the bonds of ukhuwah while consolidating the inclusive da’wah movement among the Chinese community in Indonesia and Muslims as a whole.

The meeting was held in an atmosphere of camaraderie, interspersed with a lunch of nasi briyani served with grilled chicken on large trays, enjoyed while seated around them.

The warm and cheerful atmosphere was enlivened by the presence of Chinese Muslim figures such as Ali Karim Oei (caretaker and mentor of Masjid Karim Oei), while from the PITI board were Serian Wijatno (Chairman), Denny Sanusi (Daily Chairman), Yus Kurnia Dharma (Treasurer), and other officials including Ilham Kurniawan (PITI Social), Abdurrahman Ong (Chinese Muslim Youth), and others.

Also present were representatives from Masjid Tjia Kang Hoo, Yayasan Haji Abdul Saleh, Dondy Tan as leader of Yayasan Garda Mualaf Indonesia. Additionally, there was H. Budiyanto (mentor of Masjid Lautze), Wildan and Hans Ahmad Yamin from DKM Lautze, Fran as Chairman of Yayasan Lautze, Yusman as mentor for converts at Masjid Lautze, Reynal as Treasurer of DKM/Yayasan, Del Agus and his wife, as well as Julius HMC, a young Chinese Muslim preacher. Even representatives from Muslim Hui Indonesia, Jia Bin, were in attendance.

The presence of these figures is seen as strong evidence of their collective commitment to guiding new converts and expanding a culturally friendly Islamic da’wah.

As such, the meeting, which initially was a halal bihalal, evolved into an engaging discussion on how to enhance da’wah and social contributions in society.

Serian himself emphasised the importance of preserving the legacy of the late Haji Abdul Karim Oei. For the record, Haji Abdul Karim Oei was the founder of the Persatuan Islam Tionghoa Indonesia (PITI) organisation and also one of Muhammadiyah’s key figures.

Abdul Karim Oei also contributed to Indonesia’s independence struggle alongside Soekarno and Buya Hamka. Therefore, Serian described Masjid Lautze not merely as a building, but as a symbol of struggle that must continue to be nurtured as a bridge for the Chinese Muslim community in particular and Muslims in general.

The spirit of inclusivity laid down by the predecessors, Serian said, is hoped to remain the flame that unites the steps of all da’wah pillars present.
