Gas triggered Ciputat blast

JAKARTA: A powerful explosion that destroyed a house in Cireundeu, Ciputat district, Tangerang regency, on Sunday was caused by hydrogen gas coming from a well located in a six-square-meter storeroom, police said on Monday.

The city police issued a press release on Monday said gas coming from the well caused the explosion.

The explosion destroyed part of the house, owned by an employee of the Ministry of Defense.

No one was injured in the incident.

City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Tjiptono said immediately after the explosion the blast was not caused by explosives.
