Gas Transmission Pipeline from Aceh to East Java Could Be Connected by 2028
Indonesia will soon have a natural gas transmission pipeline network connected from Aceh to East Java. This is targeted for realisation in early 2028, after the construction of the 541-kilometre Dumai-Sei Mangkei (Dusem) pipeline is completed.
Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Laode Sulaeman said that construction of the Dusem transmission pipeline has currently reached around 30%.
“Currently under construction is the completion of the 541 km Dumai-Sei Mangkei transmission pipeline and this has progressed, with progress to date at around 30%. God willing, in early 2028 the Dumai-Sei Mangkei pipeline can be completed,” Laode said during a hearing with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Wednesday (26/8/2026).
In Java, Laode explained, the ministry has already built the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) gas transmission pipeline Phase I and Phase II. For the Cisem Phase I project, a 60 km pipeline from Semarang to Batang was completed in 2023. The Cisem Phase II gas transmission pipeline, spanning 240 km along the Batang-Cirebon-Kandang Haur route, was completed in March 2026.
The funding source for both projects came from the state budget under a Multi-Year Contract scheme.
If the Dusem gas transmission pipeline project is completed, it means the natural gas transmission network from Aceh to East Java will be connected in 2028. This condition will allow natural gas distribution to be carried out through various points along the available pipeline network.
“And if this pipeline is connected, then the major transmission pipeline from Aceh to East Java for natural gas will be available and the gas delivery pattern can be carried out at every point where these pipelines are located,” he said.
Based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Dusem gas transmission pipeline project requires an investment of approximately Rp 2 trillion. The project is divided into two segments:
Segment 1 (SKG Belawan - St. Labuhan Batu), where physical construction of the pipeline has now reached 39.34%.
Segment 2 (St. Labuhan Batu - Duri), where physical construction has reached 36.39%.
