The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) has stated that a fire at a gas shop in the Eramas 2000 Complex, Pulogebang, Cakung, on Sunday night was likely caused by an electrical short circuit. The fire destroyed the shop and a vehicle carrying 3-kilogramme gas canisters.
“What burned was the stall along with a car containing 3-kg gas canisters. The cause is suspected to be an electrical short circuit,” said Head of Operations for East Jakarta Gulkarmat, Abdul Wahid, in Jakarta on Monday.
He reported that the fire was first noticed on Sunday evening, with the department receiving a report from a resident at 11:33 PM local time. Firefighters were immediately dispatched and arrived at the location in the Eramas 2000 Complex, RT 013/RW 08, to begin operations.
“The firefighting operation began at 11:41 PM. The fire was localised by 12:14 AM, cooling down started at 12:30 AM, and the fire was fully extinguished by 12:49 AM,” Abdul explained. A total of 11 fire engines and 55 personnel were deployed to tackle the blaze.
According to witnesses, the fire originated from the gas shop and quickly spread to an adjacent building. No casualties were reported in the incident, but officials are still calculating the total value of the material losses.
