A blast at a gas distribution station in the industrial city of Ras Laffan, Qatar, has killed 13 people, including Indian and Pakistani nationals, Qatari Energy Minister Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi said on Monday. “This tragedy claimed the lives of 13 of our employees from India and Pakistan. Sixty-six other employees were injured and are currently receiving hospital treatment. Their health conditions are not critical,” he said during a press conference. Among the injured are citizens of Qatar, Asia, and Africa. The energy minister stated the explosion was not linked to military action or sabotage. “The incident at the Barzan gas distribution station, where the explosion occurred, did not negatively impact the environment,” he said. Al Kaabi could not yet confirm when the facility would resume operations, as a thorough damage assessment is still required. According to him, the Barzan gas plant had been completely shut down since December 2025 and only resumed operations two days prior. Earlier, on Sunday night, the Qatari interior ministry reported an internal explosion at the local Barzan gas supply facility in Ras Laffan City caused by a technical incident, resulting in several injuries.
