Gas Pipe Leak in Bekasi Resolved, Police Confirm Area is Safe

Police have stated that the gas pipe leak in the Babelan District, Bekasi Regency, has been handled by Pertamina, and the location is now declared safe. “Information from Pertamina indicates it is safe, within the previously communicated radius,” said Bekasi Metro Police Chief, Kombes Sumarni, in a statement on Monday (8/6/2026). Sumarni added that as of this morning, the gas spray at the location has ceased.

The leak caused gas to spray from the pipeline in Kampung Tambun Singkil, Buni Bakti Village, on Sunday (7/6) at approximately 16:30 WIB. The police coordinated with Pertamina to manage the situation. “Yesterday, we coordinated with PT Pertamina to close the valves on the gas pipeline connected to the area, ensuring the gas flow stopped from the source at the scene,” Sumarni explained.

The police chief added that the leak not only produced a pungent odour but also impacted mobile phone signals and produced smoke. “The signal radiation affected residents in the surrounding area,” he said.

In response, PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) confirmed a leak in the gas pipeline in the Babelan area, owned by Pertamina EP, at 16:50 WIB on Sunday (7/6). The leak was indicated to be caused by activities related to the installation of the Cikampek-Plumpang fuel pipeline. “The Pertagas Emergency Response Team and several other parties acted immediately and were on-site to handle the situation and secure the area,” Pertagas stated in a written release.

Pertagas noted that strategic mitigation steps were taken in collaboration with the local fire brigade. The containment efforts involved local authorities to ensure the area remained controlled and sterile for repair works. “For information, since 18:15, the gas leak from the pipe has been successfully handled, and the gas flow has been stopped to isolate the leak point and prevent further risks,” the company continued.
