Gas Melon Scarce in Mataram, Prices Soar to Rp 25,000
Residents of Mataram City have complained about the difficulty in obtaining 3-kilogramme LPG cylinders over the past week. Not only is the stock dwindling, but the price of these melon gas cylinders has also risen to Rp 25,000 per cylinder, up from the normal Rp 18,000 per cylinder.
“It’s very hard to find 3kg gas these days; whenever there’s stock, it’s already booked by someone,” lamented Fitriani, one of the residents of Mataram City, on Monday (27/4/2026).
In agreement, Ida, another Mataram resident, also complained about the increasingly thin stock of melon gas. “It’s quite difficult to find 3kg gas; yesterday I went to the shop near my house, and the seller said the stock was indeed running low. Even if you buy it, you have to queue first; yesterday I got it for Rp 23,000, and my friend got it for Rp 25,000,” she said.
Previously reported, the Mataram City Trade Office (Disdag) assured that the availability of 3-kilogramme LPG gas at various agents and depots is in a safe condition.
“The stock of LPG in Mataram City is, alhamdulillah, safe. Even if in other areas it’s still unclear, sometimes there are reports of insufficient supply, specifically for Mataram City, it’s still safe,” said the Head of the Essential Goods and Services Division (Bapokting) of Mataram Disdag, Sri Wahyunida, previously.
Nida stated that each LPG gas agent in Mataram City is ensured to continue issuing quotas as usual, of course, at the Maximum Retail Price (HET) of Rp 18,000 per cylinder.
“We have visited several depots; each depot still maintains the price at Rp 18,000 per cylinder, in accordance with the HET. Nothing has changed; distribution remains as usual,” she said.
On the other hand, Nida reminded the depots in Mataram not to sell 3-kilogramme LPG above the HET.
“If we find any depot selling (above) the HET price, we will report it to the agent. The agent must follow up on that depot. By means of (imposing) sanctions, reducing their quota. If there’s an agent playing around, we will escalate it to the Pertamina level,” Nida emphasised firmly.
