Gas from the Abadi field in the Masela block sells briskly; Here are its buyers

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Inpex Corporation announced it has reached a principle agreement with PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) regarding gas supply via a pipeline from the Abadi LNG project in the Masela Block. In addition, Inpex has reached principle agreements with several companies for LNG off-take from the project, namely BP, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk, PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia, and Shell Eastern Trading (Pte) Ltd.

The announcements were made at the Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention and Exhibition 2026 held near Jakarta on 20 May 2026.

According to the company’s official statements cited on Friday (22 May 2026), Inpex is currently developing the large-scale Abadi LNG project as operator through its subsidiary Inpex Masela, Ltd., together with joint venture partners PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and Petronas Masela Sdn. Bhd..

Going forward, Inpex will continue discussions with prospective buyers to finalise a Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) that is expected to cover a substantial portion of the project’s LNG production volume.

The principle LNG sale agreement marks a significant milestone toward a Final Investment Decision (FID) for the Abadi LNG project. Meanwhile, the principle gas pipeline supply agreement is expected to progress into a Gas Sales Agreement (GSA).

This also aligns with the Indonesian government’s focus on optimising the use of domestic gas resources, while supporting energy demand growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Abadi Gas Field itself holds large gas reserves expected to underpin LNG development and stable pipeline gas production over the long term.
