Gas cylinder explosion shatters homes in Tambora, West Jakarta, suspected leak

A 12-kilogram gas cylinder exploded in a house in the Tambora area of West Jakarta on Friday morning (22 May 2026), around 06:00 local time. The Tambora sub-district head, Pangestu Aji, said the incident was likely triggered by a gas leak due to an imperfect regulator installation. The blast occurred as one resident attempted to light a stove to cook. Pangestu explained that gas leaking from the 12-kg cylinder is believed to have spread and accumulated to fill the room. Consequently, when the stove lighter was sparked, a small flame triggered a large explosion, injuring the resident.
