Gas blowout hits Anggur well

SYDNEY (Dow Jones): Santos Ltd. said on Friday that the Anggur One exploration well in the Madura Straits of Indonesia has been evacuated following a gas blowout and fire.

The company, whose Santos (Sampang) Pty. Ltd. is operator and has a 45 percent stake, said all personnel have been evacuated and there were no injuries.

"The fire is currently subsiding, and Santos (Sampang) Pty. Ltd. is taking all necessary action to control the well," it said.

The well is located about 35 kilometers east of Surabaya and the accident happened during drilling at 585 meters. The well is being drilled in a water depth of 14.8 meters.
