Gas blowout cuts TotalFinaElf's output

JAKARTA: French oil and gas firm TotalFinaElf E&P Indonesia said its gas production in East Kalimantan dropped by 130 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) due to the recent eruption at Maera well in the Tunu field.

TotalFinaElf spokesman Ananda Idris said on Monday the blowout, which occurred on Friday, had forced the company to stop its operation at the Maera well, in addition to seven nearby wells for security reasons.

He said that repair work at Maera well was still underway, but he was unsure when the eight wells would resume operation.

However, Ananda said that the company's gas supplies to the Badak LNG plant remains unaffected. TotalFinaElf produces about 2.4 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) of gas in the province.--JP
