Garut Regency prepares 30-hectare site for People's School
Garut Regency has prepared a 30-hectare site for a permanent People’s School in southern Garut, with construction targeted for completion this year.
“So, we’re currently processing the People’s School land,” said Garut Regency Secretary Nurdin Yana on Monday.
He explained the land, located in Cikelet District, was inspected by representatives from the Ministry of Social Affairs several days ago. The inspection noted requirements such as certified land ownership, but the regency government will re-engage with the ministry as the land is to be used under a temporary use arrangement.
Yana stressed the People’s School project must proceed as the central government will fully fund the construction, estimated at Rp250 billion, which he said would significantly benefit the region. “This project could secure Rp250 billion in funding. If we obtain it, that’s Rp250 billion – not to mention the ongoing daily and monthly activities,” he added.
The People’s School initiative in Garut has already been piloted, currently supporting 75 students across primary, secondary, and high school levels at the Garut Work Training Centre (BLK).
