The Garut Regency Government in West Java is encouraging the fulfilment of the need for 27,000 street lights through a government and business entity cooperation scheme. The scheme is considered an alternative financing option amid regional fiscal constraints while accelerating the provision of street lighting infrastructure.

Garut Regent Abdusy Syakur Amin said that street lighting is one of the targets in the Garut Regency Regional Medium-Term Development Plan. The infrastructure is needed to support community activities, improve road user safety, and encourage economic growth.

“Street lighting is a target in the Garut Regency RPJMD through the fulfilment of street lights and is expected to support community activities, road user safety, and economic growth,” said Abdusy Syakur on Monday.

According to him, the Garut Regency Government proposes the use of LED lamp technology in the provision of street lights through the cooperation scheme. The technology is considered more efficient because it has lower energy consumption, a long service life, and adequate lighting.

“The regional government proposes LED lamps because they are cost-effective, durable, and bright for long-term street light fulfilment,” he said.

Abdusy emphasised that regional budget limitations should not hinder public infrastructure development. Therefore, the regional government continues to seek alternative financing in accordance with statutory regulations.

“Regional fiscal limitations are not a reason to stop. We must seek alternative financing in accordance with applicable regulations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Garut Regency Transportation Agency Satria Budi said the Garut Regency Government is committed to maintaining the sustainability of public infrastructure services that have a direct impact on social activities and the community’s economy.

According to Satria, public consultation is one of the important stages in the cooperation process. The forum is used to convey government plans while gathering responses, input, views, and support from stakeholders.

“Public consultation is an important part of the cooperation process, not only conveying regional government plans, but also gathering responses, input, views, and support from stakeholders,” said Satria.

He said input from various parties is needed to ensure that service needs and the coverage of street light infrastructure can provide benefits for social and economic activities of the community.

The Garut Regency Government will next follow up on the results of the public consultation as part of the project preparation process for providing street lights through the cooperation scheme.
