Garut Police Implement One-Way Traffic System from Bandung to Tasikmalaya as Exodus Traffic Surges
Anticipating increased vehicle volumes on the national arterial road in Garut Regency, the Garut Police conducted traffic management operations involving a one-way system from Bandung towards Tasikmalaya on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
Garut Police Chief AKBP Yugi Bayu Hendarto stated that the one-way system was implemented to ease congestion on the Limbangan to Malangbong route, which serves as the primary national artery connecting Bandung to Tasikmalaya.
“We are conducting these traffic management operations because vehicle volumes from Bandung towards Tasikmalaya have increased significantly, so we implemented a situational one-way system to improve traffic flow,” he said on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
According to him, based on Garut Police data, the one-way traffic management had been implemented three times on the Limbangan and Malangbong route. The first implementation was from 09:40 to 10:00 WIB from Bandung to Tasikmalaya with a holding point at SP3 Selaawi. The second was from 10:15 to 10:30 WIB from Bandung to Tasikmalaya with a holding point at Bandrek fuel station. The third was from 11:40 to 12:00 WIB from Bandung to Tasikmalaya with a holding point at Limbangan Police Station.
“Traffic management on the Limbangan to Malangbong route was also conducted on Tarogong, Leles, and Kadungora routes to anticipate increased vehicle congestion on weekends. However, congestion management on the main route was also assisted by TNI members and the local transportation authority,” he explained.
He appealed to road users to comply with instructions from field officers and maintain safety whilst driving, as well as to exercise patience. Officers would manage traffic particularly for those making the exodus and would direct vehicles to alternative routes if congestion occurred, though on a situational basis.
“Road users are urged to be patient and follow officer instructions to maintain safe, orderly and smooth traffic flow. We also request drivers who feel fatigued to rest before continuing their journey,” he added.
During the Lebaran transportation period, railway ticket sales also showed an upward trend. By Sunday afternoon, 15 March (six days before Eid), 214,624 tickets had been sold.
At Pasar Senen Station on Sunday night, 15 March, queues of passengers extended through the ticket inspection area and platform entrance.
To ensure travel safety, the National Police Chief emphasised that technical vehicle inspections (ramp checks) and health checks for bus crew members were top priorities.
Meanwhile, traffic conditions on Salemba Tengah Street were restricted to flow from Salemba Raya Street towards Percetakan Negara Street, Paseban Raya Street, and Pramuka Jati Street.
The national one-way system implementation extended from Kalikangkung toll gate in Semarang to Cikampek Utama toll gate, designed to anticipate peak return traffic during Lebaran 2025.
Traffic conditions on several main routes in Central Java showed signs of declining vehicle volumes on Monday, 7 April morning during the return journey period.
National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo directly led the flag-off ceremony for the national one-way system from Km 414 Kalikangkung toll gate to Km 70 Cikampek Utama toll gate.
A multi-vehicle collision involving seven vehicles occurred on the Semarang-Solo toll road at Km 442 Bawen Interchange, Semarang Regency, on Saturday, 5 April evening.
