Garut BPBD Provides Clean Water Aid to 5,687 Residents Affected by Drought

The Garut Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) in West Java has distributed clean water aid to meet the needs of 5,687 people in several sub-districts affected by drought due to the dry season.

“A total of 5,687 people from 1,839 households have been served by the clean water distribution,” said Head of Garut Regency BPBD, Aah Anwar Saefuloh, in Garut on Friday.

He said the dry season has caused water sources in several areas of Garut to dry up, resulting in communities having difficulty obtaining clean water.

During the dry season from 31 May to mid-August 2026, he noted, eight villages in six sub-districts—namely Tarogong Kaler, Pasirwangi, Cigedug, Cibatu, Sucinaraja, and Karangpawitan—have been affected by drought.

“There are eight villages in six sub-districts affected by drought and receiving clean water distribution assistance,” he said.

He stated that the clean water already distributed to drought-stricken areas totals 125,000 litres, delivered directly to communities using 25 water tankers.

The clean water assistance, he said, comes not only from Garut BPBD but also from other agencies, namely PDAM, the Garut Fire and Rescue Service, the Garut Social Service, and Garut Baznas.

“For this clean water distribution, we are collaborating with other agencies—the Social Service, PDAM, Baznas, and also the Fire and Rescue Service,” he said.

He added that the Garut Regency Government has declared a drought emergency status, with the peak of the dry season occurring in August 2026.

Garut BPBD, he said, has taken anticipatory measures to address the impact of the drought by preparing water tanker trucks and joint personnel ready to assist the community.
