Garuda's new chief sworn in
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Transportation Haryanto Dhanutirto swore in yesterday Supandi, 58, as the new president of Garuda Indonesia, the country's air carrier.
In his speech, Haryanto said that the replacement of executives at state-owned firms is a normal event but is always worth observing.
Supandi replaced Wage Mulyono, who became Garuda's president in January 1992. Yesterday's ceremony was not attended by Wage who stayed working at his office. Wage's driver told The Jakarta Post yesterday that during the last few days his boss repeatedly expressed relief at the sudden replacement.
Together with Supandi, there were 18 executives sworn in by Haryanto as commissioners and 15 others as executives of state- owned firms overseen by the Ministry of Transportation.
The newly sworn in executives included Herman Prayitno, who was installed as commercial director, Thanthawi Hamid as finance director and Suprihat as technical director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) II, a company assigned to managed several sea-ports in West Java, including the Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta.
Eko Suwaryo was sworn in yesterday as Garuda's personnel and general affairs director, while Yatoen Wahyoe Wargakusumah and Muskul Firdaus were inaugurated as PT Angkasa Pura II's directors of operation and finance respectively. Angkasa Pura is the firm managing nine airports in the western part of the country, including two in Jakarta.
Baharuddin Wahab was appointed as president of PT Pengerukan Indonesia, a dredging firm, while Bambang Istidjab, Wahyono Bimarso and Chalid Thahir were inaugurated as new directors of finance, technology and commerce of Pelindo IV, respectively. (icn)
