Garuda's net revenues up

JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned air carrier Garuda Indonesia
recorded a 63.25 percent increase in net revenues last year from
sales of tickets and cargo services in Jakarta alone.

Garuda's general manager for Jakarta, Iwan H. Susilo, said
here over the weekend that out of the company's total revenues in
1995, 45 percent came from sales in Jakarta.

He said that in 1994, Garuda's Jakarta office contributed 40
percent to the company's total revenues.

When asked, he refused to specify the amount of revenues.

According to Garuda's recent report to the House of
Representatives, the air carrier earned a total profit of Rp 18.8
billion (approximately US$8 million) in the first three quarters
of 1995 but figures for revenues were not available.

Iwan said that Garuda has introduced several new services.
"For instance, we have introduced city check-in services at five
locations in Jakarta. Passengers can pay the exit tax at the city
check-in counters at the Jakarta International Trade Center in
Mangga Dua, West Jakarta, and the Dharmala Sakti building on Jl.
Sudirman, Central Jakarta," he said during a gala dinner here to
award travel agents which sold over US$300,000 worth of Garuda
tickets in 1995.

He said that Garuda also introduced a "phone and flight"
service which allows passengers to buy international and domestic
tickets over the telephone.(icn)
