Garuda suspends Idul Fitri flights

YOGYAKARTA : Garuda Indonesia airways had to suspend four extra pre-Idul Fitri flights scheduled for its Jakarta-Yogyakarta route due to lack of passengers, a spokesman said.

Garuda's Yogyakarta office manager Tamim Hadi was quoted by Antara as saying that the airline had earlier planned to operate four extra return flights from Jan. 23 to Jan. 27 in anticipation of a stark increase in travelers during the period prior to Idul Fitri.

But the first flights with the 110-seater planes carried not more than an average of 15 passengers per flight, "so we decided to suspend all extra flights on this route," he said.

Tamim said the extra flights could be rescheduled if there was a sudden increase in passengers. (mds)
