Garuda Indonesia to Adopt Piece Concept for Baggage Starting 1 September
PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk will introduce a new baggage calculation system by adopting the piece concept from 1 September 2026. The policy replaces the previous system based on the weight concept, whereby baggage was calculated by total weight.
“Effective 1 September 2026, Garuda Indonesia will provide baggage convenience through the Piece Concept policy, whereby checked baggage will be calculated based on the number of items brought,” according to Garuda Indonesia’s official website, as reported by detikFinance.
The new rules apply to all tickets purchased or issued from 1 September 2026. They will also serve as the basis for free baggage allowance facilities on all flights operated by the airline.
Under the Piece Concept, baggage information is claimed to be clearer, more certain and easier to understand. Each ticket will state baggage capacity in terms of the number of suitcases that may be brought, along with the maximum weight per suitcase, so passengers can more easily determine their baggage allowance before departure.
“This update is designed to provide a more comfortable travel experience, help you prepare your belongings before departure, and support a faster and smoother check-in and baggage collection process,” it explained.
In addition, the implementation of the Piece Concept policy is said to align Garuda Indonesia’s baggage rules with standards already applied by various international airlines.
“This provides a more consistent travel experience, especially for those continuing their journey on international flights,” it added.
