Jakarta (ANTARA) - National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is strengthening its service transformation through the adoption of a piece-concept checked baggage scheme based on the number of pieces, providing additional baggage allowance of up to 64 kilograms for passengers depending on route and cabin class.

Garuda Indonesia’s Director of Transformation, Neil Raymond Mills, said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday that the new policy applies to tickets issued from 1 September 2026 for travel on or after that date.

“The implementation of the Piece Concept is part of Garuda Indonesia’s transformation to modernise services while providing greater certainty for passengers. With clearer rules on the number of pieces and maximum weight, passengers can prepare their belongings more easily, from the trip-planning stage through to departure,” he explained.

Under the scheme, the airline provides certainty on the number and maximum weight of each checked baggage piece, while increasing benefits for passengers with a larger baggage allocation compared with the previous rules.

On domestic flights, Economy class passengers receive a checked baggage allowance of one piece with a maximum weight of 23 kilograms. Meanwhile, Business and First Class passengers receive two pieces with a maximum weight of 32 kilograms each, or a total of up to 64 kilograms.

For international flights, Economy class passengers receive two pieces with a maximum weight of 23 kilograms each, or a total of 46 kilograms.

Business and First Class passengers receive two pieces with a maximum weight of 32 kilograms each, or a total of up to 64 kilograms.
