Garuda Indonesia Reduces Net Loss by 45.2%, Restructures Management
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk recorded growth in operational performance and improvement in financial performance in the first quarter of 2026. Garuda Indonesia’s Director of Operations, Glenny Kairupan, said that the Garuda Indonesia Group had carried 5.42 million passengers during the January-March 2026 period, an increase of 6.76% compared to the same period last year, which was 5.08 million passengers.
“This traffic growth was also supported by an increase in flight frequency of 5.87% to 19,337 flights compared to 18,265 flights in the first quarter of 2025,” said Glenny in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday (May 15, 2026).
Glenny said that this traffic growth also encouraged an increase in the company’s consolidated operating revenue by 5.36% to $762.35 million compared to the same period last year of $723.56 million. He said that scheduled flight revenue was the main contributor with an increase of 7.36% to $648.10 million compared to $603.69 million in the first quarter of 2025.
“In addition to recording revenue growth, the company also managed to reduce net loss by around 45.2% to $41.62 million compared to a net loss in the same period last year of $75.93 million,” he added.
Glenny said that the performance achievements in the first quarter of 2026 were a positive signal for the consistency of the process of strengthening operational and business fundamentals that the company is currently gradually carrying out.
He said that the growth in passenger traffic, increased flight capacity, and improved financial performance in the first quarter of 2026 showed that the transformation and strengthening of the company’s business fundamentals that have been implemented are starting to show positive progress gradually.
“Our focus now remains directed at maintaining operational discipline, strengthening service reliability, and ensuring that business growth runs more healthily and sustainably,” said Glenny.
The Garuda Indonesia Group also recorded an improvement in flight punctuality (on time performance/OTP) to 91.01% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to 87.93% in the same period last year.
From an operational fleet perspective, until the end of the first quarter of 2026, said Glenny, the company had operated up to 102 serviceable aircraft as part of the acceleration of the return-to-service (RTS) aircraft program which is currently being carried out gradually to support flight capacity needs.
“During this period, Garuda Indonesia carried 2.47 million passengers, while Citilink carried 2.94 million passengers,” said Glenny.
