Garuda Indonesia Comments on Closure of Jakarta-Bengkulu Route
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk has confirmed the permanent closure of the Jakarta–Bengkulu route. This decision was taken as part of operational adjustments and route performance evaluations.
Corporate Communications Division Head of Garuda Indonesia, Dicky Irchamsyah, stated that flights to Bengkulu remain available via Citilink.
“The Garuda Indonesia Group is optimising flight services to and from Bengkulu by strengthening Citilink’s role as part of the group’s aviation services ecosystem,” Dicky said in an official statement on Monday (30/3/2026).
“We are committed to supporting inter-regional connectivity as one of the key pillars in strengthening national mobility,” he added.
The route adjustment is intended to maintain healthy business performance. Garuda assesses that every route must achieve a measurable level of profitability.
“This step is taken from the perspective of providing sustainable air connectivity for the public, as well as maintaining healthy and competitive business fundamentals,” he said.
“This adjustment is also part of our focus on accelerating performance that we need to implement in a measured and sustainable manner by ensuring the optimisation of profitable routes,” he added.
The company also opens the possibility of resuming the Bengkulu route in the future. That decision depends on operational conditions and market demand.
“As operational conditions improve and demand grows, the Garuda Indonesia Group will continue to open opportunities for gradual and measured service development,” he said.
“We hope to continue contributing to supporting inclusive national connectivity, while strengthening the aviation industry’s role as an enabler of regional and national economic growth,” he emphasised.
The last flight on the Jakarta–Bengkulu route was operated on 28 March 2026. That service marked the end of Garuda’s operations at Fatmawati Soekarno Airport, Bengkulu.
This decision was influenced by low passenger load factors and the company’s business evaluation results.
