Garuda Indonesia aircraft nose dented after landing at Pekanbaru's SSK II Airport
An aircraft operated by Garuda Indonesia, flight GA 176 from Jakarta to Pekanbaru, sustained damage described as a dent on the left side of the nose section (radome) after landing at Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport (SSK II), Pekanbaru, Riau, on Saturday, 7 March. Consequently, the onward Pekanbaru–Jakarta leg was cancelled.
Achmad, General Manager of SSK II Pekanbaru International Airport, said the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the damage.
‘The cause of the impact is still under investigation. We will provide an evaluation once the results of a comprehensive investigation from the relevant agencies are released,’ Achmad said.
He explained that the incident was observed with the Garuda Indonesia GA 176 Jakarta–Pekanbaru, registration PK-GFF, which arrived at SSK II with around 30 passengers on board.
After landing, technicians along with the flight crew immediately carried out a visual inspection. Initial checks found substantial damage to the radome, the aircraft’s nose, particularly on the left side.
To date, the cause remains under information-gathering. The investigation involves various parties to determine the factors that caused the damage to the aircraft.
As a consequence, Garuda Indonesia GA 179 Pekanbaru–Jakarta onward flight was cancelled.
As a precaution, passengers have been re-routed from Pekanbaru to Jakarta on a Citilink aircraft, QG033, via Halim Perdanakusuma Airport at 19:30 WIB.
‘After landing, a visual inspection was carried out by technicians and the flight crew. The inspection revealed the radome sustained quite heavy damage,’ he concluded. (Z-2)
