Garuda Claims Ticket Prices Always Follow Standards, Transport Minister Reveals Violations
PT Garuda Indonesia stated that aircraft ticket prices sold always comply with government regulations. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi revealed that Garuda Indonesia has previously committed violations.
This emerged during a parliamentary meeting discussing infrastructure readiness and transportation services for the 2026 Lebaran exodus together with Commission V of the House of Representatives in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (11 March 2026). Initially, Garuda Indonesia claimed that tickets sold were always at the upper tariff ceiling.
“Regarding Garuda tickets, we are indeed still following the standard set by the government, sir, which is the upper tariff ceiling. So the tickets that Garuda has sold never exceed what has been stipulated by the regulator, and what we have presented on the website also conforms to what has been established by the regulator,” said Dani Haikal, Director of Operations at PT Garuda Indonesia.
Commission V Chair Lasarus then asked the Transport Minister about this claim. Dudy responded that the upper tariff ceiling is naturally always applied during certain seasons.
“Is that sufficient? Very well, thank you for the explanation, Garuda. Garuda is still selling tickets at the tariff set by the government, which is the upper tariff ceiling, never exceeding the upper tariff ceiling. Minister, has Garuda ever exceeded the upper tariff ceiling, Minister?” asked Lasarus of Dudy.
“Thank you, Mr Chair. During every major event such as Lebaran and the year-end holiday period, we indeed constantly monitor the tariff setting conducted by the airlines. And indeed, during peak seasons, Mr Chair, ladies and gentlemen present, airlines typically use the upper tariff ceiling as already provided, sir. And so far, if there are violations, we always issue warnings, Mr Chair,” responded Dudy.
Subsequently, Lasarus again pressed the issue of whether or not Garuda Indonesia had committed violations. Dudy then acknowledged that Garuda has previously violated regulations.
“Have there been violations, sir?” asked Lasarus again.
“I am still inventorying this, Mr Chair,” answered Dudy.
“Do not be afraid, Minister. Have there been violations or not?” said Lasarus.
“Perhaps once or twice, Mr Chair,” said Dudy.
“So there have been violations, yes? Very well, Minister. So there have been, just let it not happen frequently, Minister,” continued Lasarus.
