Garuda and lost baggage

Garuda and lost baggage

From Republika

On Sept. 28, 1995, I left on official duty from Polonia airport, Medan, to Jakarta on Garuda Indonesia GA 153. I brought a briefcase containing clothes and registered it as baggage. Upon arriving at Soekarno-Hatta airport (at about 1:30 p.m.) I couldn't find my briefcase on the baggage belt.

I reported the matter to an officer in charge at the airport. He made a Property Irregularity Report and asked me to call 550- 6261/550-6257 at about 6:30 p.m., saying that my briefcase might be aboard the next flight. When I called the number, the official said "they could not find the briefcase and would try to solve the problem". I inquired how long I would have to wait and they gave the same ambiguous answer. Even so, I called the officer again the next day, but there had been no progress.

Finally I decided to stop calling. As of today, I still have not been contacted by Garuda, even though I gave them my phone number and address.

When I returned to Medan I reported the matter to Garuda's office in Polonia Airport and, again, left my address and phone number. Almost two months have passed, and Garuda still hasn't taken the trouble to contact me.
