Garment Factory Fire in Tambora Destroys Building and Damages 29 Homes
Jakarta – The intense blaze that engulfed a four-storey garment factory on Tanah Sereal Street, Tambora, West Jakarta, on Friday 13 March 2026 in the early morning hours caused the building to collapse and flames spread to the densely packed residential area nearby, destroying 29 homes.
Suheri, Head of the Disaster Management and Rescue Sub-Office (Gulkarmat) for West Jakarta, stated that the garment factory’s structural integrity was unable to withstand the heat generated by the fire, ultimately causing the building to collapse.
Due to the large amount of building material that was buried and still retained embers, firefighting personnel arrived and attempted to extinguish the blaze, which was finally brought under control at 12.30 WIB (West Indonesian Time).
A number of firefighting personnel were subsequently deployed to conduct cooling operations to secure the situation at the location.
The area of burned building measured 40 by 25 metres, or approximately 1,000 square metres.
In total, 58 household heads (KK) and 213 residents living in the vicinity of the garment factory were affected.
The breakdown was as follows: in RT 10 there were 32 households with 134 residents, and in RT 11 there were 26 households with 79 residents, Suheri explained.
Currently, a total of 62 evacuees are staying temporarily at the Darul Jamaah Mosque in RT 01 RW 11 Tanah Sereal, Tambora.
Previously, it was reported that a four-storey garment factory building on Tanah Sereal Street number 13, RT 11/RW 09, Tanah Sereal Village, Tambora District, West Jakarta, caught fire on Friday 13 March 2026 at 02.30 WIB in the early morning hours.
The fire was discovered when residents were still active during the night. Suddenly, garment factory workers ran out seeking help after fire broke out from a sewing machine on the first floor.
Residents attempted to extinguish the fire themselves, but the effort failed because the flames had already spread rapidly and the materials inside the building were filled with highly flammable items.
A total of 31 fire trucks with 155 personnel were deployed to conduct firefighting operations.
The extinguishing process lasted approximately six hours until the fire was finally brought under control at 08.42 WIB.
