JAKARTA — A garment factory building located at Jalan Tanah Sereal 13, RT 11/RW 09, Kelurahan Tanah Sereal, Kecamatan Tambora, West Jakarta caught fire on Friday (13 March 2026) at 02:30 WIB.

Head of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Gulkarmat), Suheri, stated that residents who were active late at night witnessed garment factory workers calling for help. “Residents who were playing billiards near the location saw garment factory workers running out. They requested assistance to try to extinguish the fire that was burning the sewing machines on the first floor,” Suheri said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Friday.

“The fire could not be extinguished by the workers and instead grew larger. The fire quickly spread upwards to the third floor through the cloth distribution route between floors,” Suheri explained.

Seeing the uncontrolled fire, a resident immediately contacted firefighting officials. The emergency report was received by Gulkarmat at 02:31 WIB. Officers departed at 02:32 WIB and arrived at the location seven minutes later.

“The final deployment of firefighting forces amounted to 31 fire trucks with a total of 155 personnel,” said Suheri.

The fire destroyed an area of the building estimated at 40 by 25 metres, or approximately 1,000 square metres. As a result, a total of 58 households and 213 residents living near the garment factory location were affected.

“The breakdown is that in RT 10 there are 32 households with 134 residents, and in RT 11 there are 26 households with 79 residents,” said Suheri.

Additionally, Suheri reported that during the firefighting process, five firefighters were injured. “The main cause was that during the firefighting process, the burning building suddenly collapsed. Our members were struck by falling debris and collapse materials,” explained Suheri.

Meanwhile, one other firefighter was reported injured after falling from a ladder whilst performing his duties.
