Garlic smuggling foiled

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra: The police have foiled separate attempts to smuggle in 11 tons of garlic from abroad and have arrested six suspected smugglers over the past two months.

Spokesman for the Southern Sumatra Police Command, Second Lieutenant Suyanto, said seven tons of the garlic was confiscated in Tanjung Jabung, Jambi, and Musi Rawas, South Sumatra, in June. The rest was seized in South Sumatra this month.

The commodity was seized on its way from the North Sumatra capital of Medan to Jakarta, Antara reported. (pan)
