Gardening Programme Trains Independence for Children with Special Needs

A gardening activity is being utilised as a means to train independence for children with special needs while developing skills that can support their future productivity. The programme is run by the Lovely Hands Community with support from PT Bank KEB Hana Indonesia (Hana Bank) to commemorate National Children’s Day. The support provided is in the form of a donation for gardening activities on land managed by the Lovely Hands Community in Sunter, North Jakarta. The community assists children with special needs, especially those from underprivileged families. Hana Bank Chief Human Capital and Operation Officer Sumia said the support is expected to help children with special needs develop their abilities to become more independent. “Hana Bank will continue to present various initiatives that provide a positive and sustainable impact. Through collaboration with the Lovely Hands Community, we hope to equip children with special needs so they can be independent and empowered within society,” Sumia said in a written statement. According to Hana Bank, gardening activities not only teach cultivation skills but also serve as a medium for children to interact, cooperate, and produce goods with economic value. In addition to channelling aid, a number of Hana Bank employees also volunteered in the activity. They accompanied the children in various activities, from planting and harvesting crops, watering the garden, to feeding fish. Hana Bank stated that this empowerment programme is one of the company’s social activities focusing on education and humanitarian fields. Besides supporting children with special needs, the company also runs educational scholarship programmes, blood donations, social assistance, and school renovations.
