Garbage Piles at Kramat Jati Main Market Fully Removed
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The piles of rubbish that had mounted up at Pasar Induk Kramat Jati in East Jakarta have been fully removed in a gradual and intensive manner by Perumda Pasar Jaya on Friday.
“Rubish handling is carried out intensively and sustainably as part of services to the community, especially traders and visitors,” said the Director of Perumda Pasar Jaya, Agus Himawan, in Jakarta on Friday.
The removal carried out from 2-10 April 2026 involved hundreds of vehicles to ensure that the rubbish is transported and the market conditions return to clean and comfortable for trading activities.
Agus stated that this quick action is a follow-up to the company’s commitment to maintaining market environmental cleanliness.
“This step is for cleanliness, especially in strategic areas like Pasar Induk Kramat Jati, which has high daily activity volume,” said Agus.
During that period, Perumda Pasar Jaya recorded a total of 228 rubbish removal trips, consisting of 212 tronton units and 16 typar units.
This increase in the number of vehicles is a response to the surge in rubbish volume due to the high market activity.
In addition, Agus explained that the removal is carried out every day with high frequency to ensure there is no more rubbish buildup that could potentially disrupt comfort or environmental health.
“To date, the removal process is still ongoing to ensure conditions remain under control,” said Agus.
This handling effort also involves close collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency.
This synergy is considered important so that rubbish removal and management run effectively, on time, and in accordance with environmental cleanliness standards.
Agus also emphasised that the success in overcoming the rubbish piles does not only depend on removal alone, but also on collective awareness.
Therefore, Perumda Pasar Jaya continues to intensify education for traders and visitors to be more prudent in managing rubbish.
“In addition to routine removal, we also encourage behavioural change through education so that market cleanliness can be maintained sustainably,” said Agus.
As a long-term step, Pasar Jaya is developing various waste management innovations, including trials of thermal hydrolysis technology as well as the development of the Zero Waste Management System (MASARO) which enables on-site waste processing from the source.
These innovations are expected to reduce reliance on final disposal sites and create a more modern and environmentally friendly waste management system.
With this intensive handling and sustainable strategy, Pasar Induk Kramat Jati is expected not only to become the largest food distribution centre, but also to serve as a model for clean, healthy, and comfortable markets in the capital.
Previously, the Regional Public Company (Perumda) Pasar Jaya targeted the handling of rubbish piles at Pasar Induk Kramat Jati in East Jakarta to be completed within the next three days, namely on Friday.
This target is a follow-up to the deadline given by the Governor of DKI Jakarta regarding the acceleration of rubbish issues in the largest market area in the capital.
Not only focusing on short-term handling, Pasar Jaya is also committed to building a more sustainable system to maintain market environmental cleanliness and comfort.
