Garbage haulers under the auspices of the Forum Swakelola Sampah Bali (SSB) are planning to sell their trucks as a result of the ban on disposing organic waste at the Suwung landfill since 1 April.

SSB Chairman I Wayan Suarta said that the plan has already been conveyed by members internally within the forum. However, the number of trucks to be sold cannot yet be confirmed.

“We don’t know the exact number yet. They have just said in the group there that they are conveying it. Some might sell quietly, others might clean their vehicles and just leave them,” Suarta said when contacted by detikBali on Monday (13/4/2026).

Suarta explained that the waste haulers are now confused about where to dispose of organic waste. This is because the TPST prepared by the Denpasar City Government is said to be starting to exceed capacity.

“Residue is okay (to be dumped at Suwung landfill). Even that is still strict there; sometimes they get turned back, which is tiring,” he clarified.

This situation has left the waste haulers feeling desperate. They claim to be confused about where to dispose of the waste while still being asked by the community to collect it.

“When no one serves them, in the end, the community suffers, and piles of rubbish are everywhere; ultimately, we all lose, including the government and the public, because it impacts tourism,” Suarta revealed.

Suarta assessed that the policy of banning the disposal of organic waste at the Suwung landfill appears hasty. According to him, the prepared waste management system is not yet running optimally.

“That’s why they say the programme is impromptu; it’s rushed and forced. Other regions don’t have anything like that either,” he stressed.
