Garbage Carts Queue Again at Rawajati TPS Due to Bantargebang Landslide
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Queues of motorised garbage carts were once again visible in front of the Temporary Waste Storage Site (TPS) Rawajati, Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3/2026). Based on observations by Kompas.com at the location, several waste carriers were sitting on the pavement while waiting in line to unload their rubbish. The piles of waste in the open area were no longer visible. Only small mounds of rubbish remained. Occasionally, motorised garbage carts moved forward. According to one waste carrier, Bubun (61), the queues have returned to normal because the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) is operating normally again. “Yes, this has gone back to normal; now the queue takes at most an hour to clear,” Bubun said when met at the location on Tuesday. They only need to wait for rubbish trucks to collect the waste they unload at TPS Rawajati. Another waste carrier, Sayatri (55), said the queues of motorised garbage carts were caused by repairs at the waste storage area. “Now it’s because this field is just going to be filled in, since it has subsided badly,” Sayatri said when met separately. “Indeed, it is being optimised in the new TPS building so that it is tidier. But regarding the filling, I haven’t received information from the field,” explained Dedy. He also said that the quota restrictions on waste transport to TPST Bantargebang are still in effect. However, Dedy stated that solutions for handling waste accumulation fall under the authority of the Environment Agency. Kompas.com has contacted the Public Relations of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency, Yogi Ikhwan, regarding solutions for waste accumulation, but has not yet received a response.
