The rain has come to Jakarta and its surrounding areas. The
immediate impact is that some places have seen pools of water and
stinking piles of garbage. Ditches and gutters are blocked by
garbage that the residents have thoughtlessly dumped.

It is high time that the Jakarta administration and the
administrations of buffer zones of this capital city (Bekasi,
Depok, Bogor and Tangerang) intensified their relevant services
to ensure that Jakarta and its surrounding areas will be garbage-
free. Otherwise, blocked ditches and gutters and stinking piles
of garbage will only harm the residents' health.
