The Indonesian Food and Beverage Producers Association (GAPMMI) has emphasised that industry players must consistently uphold food safety standards to boost product value and strengthen competitiveness. Chairman Adhi S. Lukman stated that food safety is an absolute, non-negotiable requirement, and the association continuously encourages its members to produce safe food in compliance with regulations. Speaking at the Food Ingredients (Fi) Asia Indonesia 2026 event in Jakarta on Thursday, he highlighted the need for manufacturers to use safe raw materials and maintain production processes that prioritise safety, ensuring products are fit for consumption. He added that product traceability is essential, including details of production time, processes, and storage temperatures, so that any consumer complaints can be properly investigated. Adhi also urged consumers to look beyond price and seek information about product safety. He noted that while economic challenges affect household spending, the importance of choosing safe food must not be overlooked. He remarked that consumers often opt for cheap products, but if low cost leads to illness, it becomes expensive in the long run, so it is crucial to find affordable yet valuable items. He encouraged producers to innovate by finding suppliers offering competitively priced raw materials or by exploring local alternatives to reduce reliance on imports. Such steps, he said, would sustain market demand and enable businesses to meet consumer needs for safe and healthy food while keeping the economy moving. Adhi also invited industry players to leverage exhibitions featuring local and international suppliers to broaden their knowledge of safe ingredients that support consumer health.
