Palm oil products are used almost throughout the day in our lives. From soap, cooking oil, chocolate, to ice cream, all are made from processed palm oil.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The palm oil industry partnered with the Forum Wartawan Pertanian (Forwatan) to educate children about the everyday benefits of palm oil for the community.

Mochamad Husni, Media Relations of Gabungan Pengusaha Kelapa Sawit Indonesia (GAPKI), said that palm oil is a strategic Indonesian commodity that greatly benefits daily life, from cooking oil and soap to chocolate, ice cream, and biodiesel feedstock.

“Products of palm oil are used almost throughout the day in our lives. From soap, cooking oil, chocolate, to ice cream, all are made from processed palm oil,” he said in Jakarta, on Sunday.

“Additionally, palm oil also makes a major contribution to the national economy. According to data from the Ministry of Industry, the downstream palm oil sector’s economic value is estimated at around Rp750 trillion, equivalent to about 3.5 percent of Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product, including exports and downstream products.”

“At the event, Husni also explained that palm oil companies actively carry out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities to support surrounding communities.”

““We do not only process palm oil to make cooking oil, soap, butter, or toothpaste, but we also share part of the output through social activities so that it is beneficial for the wider community,” he said.”

“He added that CSR activities include four main sectors: education, economic empowerment, health, and the environment.”

“In many palm oil companies, especially on plantations outside Java, such social activities are routinely carried out. This is part of our principle that the resources obtained are not only for ourselves but must be shared with the community,” he explained.

“With these activities, palm oil companies strive to help schools, boost community economy, support healthcare facilities, and protect the environment, so that the benefits can be felt widely.”

“Meanwhile, the General Chairman of Forwatan Beledug Bantolo in Jakarta on Sunday said the activity, supported by Gapki, PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, Apical, and Wilmar Group, is one of the efforts to quell negative issues that circulate in society.”

““Through this activity, we want to build understanding that palm oil should be preserved and its benefits safeguarded, so that its presence in our country is not forgotten,” he said.”

“Apart from educating about the benefits of palm oil, the event titled ‘Sawit Berbagi, Ramadhan Penuh Makna’ also distributed basic necessities to the children of Riyadhush Sholihin Orphanage in Kebayunan Tapos Depok, West Java.”
