Ganjar Dismisses Claims PDIP's Stance is Ambiguous: Let's Hold a Mirror to Ourselves

PDIP executive Ganjar Pranowo has stressed that his party’s position is unequivocally outside the government, serving as a balancing force, following a call from the National Awakening Party (PKB) for PDIP to clarify its stance. Ganjar stated this position is an official party decision. “PDI Perjuangan’s position is actually very clear: we are outside the government and carrying out a balancing function. That is an official party decision, the result of the highest organisational mechanism, and has been conveyed openly to the public. So, there is nothing ambiguous,” Ganjar told reporters on Friday (19/6/2026).

Ganjar explained that the balancing role does not mean rejecting all government policies. He said PDIP would support policies that favour the people and criticise those deemed inappropriate. “As with our notes on the Free Nutritious Meals programme (MBG), the KDMP, education, health, foreign policy, disasters, and others. Checks and balances are the foundation of a healthy democracy,” he said.

Ganjar then touched on political dynamics in Indonesia. He argued that political positioning is not solely determined by who was an electoral opponent. “We all know who has remained consistent in their ranks and who has entered and ended up in the ruling camp, joining the government. That is every party’s political right and we respect it,” he said.

Ganjar suggested that each party should focus on explaining its own political stance. He stressed that his party does not need validation from other parties. “Therefore, it would be wiser if every party focused on explaining its own political stance, rather than defining the stance of other parties. PDI Perjuangan does not need a certificate of political clarity from anyone,” he remarked. According to him, what matters most for PDIP is consistency in fighting for the people’s interests. He said PDIP’s position is not merely about being inside or outside the government. “For us, the most important measure is not being inside or outside the government, but being consistent in fighting for the people’s interests,” he said. “What confuses the public is not a party that consistently acts as a balancer, but rather who used to be opponents and who eventually joined, and then lectures others about consistency. Let’s all hold a mirror to ourselves,” he added.

Earlier, PKB faction chairman in the House of Representatives, Jazilul Fawaid, had urged PDIP to take a firm stance regarding the government of President Prabowo Subianto. Jazilul said an unclear stance could create a confusing impression. “I hope they will just take a firm stance. If they are the opposition, then be the opposition. Don’t be ambiguous. Because we are all fighting hard to realise what the President has promised. All the programmes have been arranged,” Jazilul said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (18/6). Jazilul was responding to a reporter’s question about the alleged participation of Andi Widjajanto in a recent protest.
