Gangsters mob-attack two youths in Gresik; seven suspects arrested

Police have arrested seven gang members who have caused trouble at several locations in Gresik, East Java. The perpetrators carried out a group assault on two young men. Most of the suspects are still young and students. They are FKH (22), CH (20), MFA (17), MDN (17), DV (17), and HM and DA who are 16 years old, all from several villages in the Manyar District. ‘They are part of a gang that calls itself Sparta and carry out violent acts in groups,’ said AKP Arya Widjaja, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Gresik Police, as quoted by detikJatim on Friday (6 March 2026). One of the assaults occurred in Sukomulyo Village, Manyar District. The victims IAM (18) and a friend were riding a motorcycle after dropping off a friend. ‘The victim, while passing, was suddenly kicked by one of the perpetrators causing him to swerve and crash into the roundabout garden,’ Arya said. After the fall, the victim and his friend were immediately mobbed by several perpetrators. They were beaten, kicked, and stones were thrown at the victim’s helmet. The perpetrators also damaged the victim’s motorcycle. ‘The victim reported that he was mobbed by around 10 people. Some kicked the victim’s legs, hit his hands, and threw stones at the helmet,’ he added.
